Sir,

I would like to comment on a recent editorial in this journal. [1] I personally feel that the issues raised by the author like academic Anarchy, publish or perish and so on really exist in the minds of all the young authors now a days. The Research publications have rather become a race as to who gets more number of publications irrespective of the quality of work. Most of the new/young authors want to publish their work just because it is a criterion for them to appear in the examinations and not for the sake of a good scientific publication, which would be beneficial to the medical fraternity. A good publication is a combined effort of authors, editor's, reviewers and the like. I fail to understand why an author should be so defensive and short-sighted regarding any comment of the referee about his/her article. There should be checks and balances in order to ensure a good quality publication. We should never demean a healthy criticism as the editor has rightly mentioned in the article that it encourages a greater quality of our work. One more thing which appalled me was the comment of such a senior author as you have mentioned in your article that "30 years of experience was an adequate reference [1]" depicting the unprofessional attitude and conceit of the author. We the authors should be more open-minded and unprejudiced and ready to accept any healthy criticism. This is not to abject the author, it is just to make the publication more authentic and reliable, after all, these scientific articles have a direct impact on the society, especially the medical fraternity.

I myself being a young author have so many times received comments regarding my published work, some are very polite and quite a few have a tone little bit on the harsh side but after all this is for our own benefit so we should accept these comments in good faith and improve our work accordingly.

I would like to congratulate the author for writing such a good and informative article regarding this issue as this is really a need of the hour keeping in view, the exponential increase in the number of publications in the last decade and also an increase in the so-called "predatory journals".

Remember its quality and not the quantity that matters as is rightly said. It's better to have fewer things of quality than too much expendable junk.
