Sir,
The report titled, "Hereditary stomatocytosis: First case report from Valley of Kashmir" written by Rasool et al. and published in one of the recent issues, [1] is informative. I congratulate the authors for this rare case report. Having said this, few points are worth considering.
First, the authors should have provided references supporting their statement on the number of families of hereditary stomatocytosis (HS) present worldwide, which would help readers desirous of exploring the subject further.
Second, the authors have overlooked the most important fact, namely, the percentage of stomatocytes present in the peripheral blood of the patient as well as their siblings and parents. The diagnosis of HS is based on the presence of stomatocytes in the blood that should be above a certain percentage, besides, of course, the other criteria.
Third, the quality of photomicrographs could have been better.
The above points are mentioned in the hope that the quality of publications will improve further. There is always scope for improvement. These points do not diminish the merit of the publication in any way.
Finally, I mention proudly that the authors belong to the same institute where I have worked earlier.
