Sir,

The three articles published argue in favor of publishing case reports. [1],[2],[3] We agree with the view that case reports should not be looked down on.

As rightly pointed out by the authors a case well written and with proper workup done is an asset rather than a liability. In the past, many simple case reports helped humanity to find new solutions. [1],[2] A busy clinician may find it difficult to undertake a research activity which demands time and energy. Similarly, a postgraduate may not have the requisite expertise or assess to the material to write a complete research paper. If they encounter a really interesting case with a new message then they should be encouraged to report their findings. In future, the cumulative case reports may provide additional data and a new look into the old problem. Otherwise definitely there is a chance for them to be victimized by the predatory journals. A scoring system as propose by the articles will be useful. [1],[3]

Another aspect is that all authors should take equal responsibility and should be given equal credibility. Coupled with an effective scoring system, this may help to produce more quality research where the aim will be to help mankind rather than pursuing personal gains. [4] If issues such as plagiarism and ethics are suitably addressed, then case reports should not be discouraged.

A journal with many features such as images, quizzes, cases with difficulties in diagnosis, lessons learnt from problematic cases, cases highlighting multi-disciplinary approach are the ones which will be sought and favored by the readers. Hope the concerned authorities will take necessary steps to ensure that case reports do not die an untimely death. With this we rest our case.
