Sir,
Upper limb surgery requires a broad width arm support as compared with routine hand support used. Since space is required to keep instruments, limb may be positioned in various positions during the surgery and this cannot be carried out in regular arm rest, many commercial arm rests are available, but they are costly. We have designed a platform for upper limb surgery, which is easy to make, easy to carry and cheap [Figure 1] and [Figure 2].{Figure 1}{Figure 2}
It is made up of plywood and its dimensions are 70 inches long and 15 inches wide and ½ inch thick. It weight is 10 kg (light weight) and can be carried by a single person easily and is kept below the mattress of the operation table so the weight of the patient stabilizes it. All elective and emergency upper limb surgery can be easily carried out on one side or both sides. The other side of the platform can be used by anesthetist, to keep monitoring equipment, drugs etc. Its cost would be around 2500 Indian rupees (45 USD).
The hand table is easy to manufacture, easily available and is affordable substitute for hand table, which may not be easily available at many places.
